Hallo !
100Okt !!

This is a public post from Stuart Harris .. Manager from Vauxhall.
“There have been 20 cases where we have paid for new engines.
Out of these 2 were due to all the coolant being lost and the driver(s) continuing despite the clouds of steam.
The other 18 are all piston fails. Out of which we believe all but 2 are remapped engines.
There are 3951 out there in the UK and same again in Europe , plus Astra and Corsa Sri models that we've not included. The engine is also now in the Insignia.
The investigation continues as its very difficult for us to show if the car has been mapped or not so we're now using a company to check suspect ecus and between this company and our own investigations the problem appears to stem from a combination of remap and abuse. The other two had piston to valve contact - abuse again.
If I had a standard car I wouldn't be worried. And even if it did go wrong the warranty covers it. However I'd still be warming the car up properly and no flooring it until after 5-8mins.
If I had a mapped car I'd be doing a few things i) put 98ron in ii)again let the engine warm up properly before flooring it to impress friends.
If I was to be asked why its happening on some cars and not others I'd point to the owner. We have had 2x VXRPC cars here thats been thrashed worse than any as its been with journos. No problems. We have all the cars at track days that some of you have driven without any problems.
The engine is inherently a strong one but deserves some respect. ANY car given the treatment we've seen from some customers will go pop.
Finally the failure rate is 0.5% , for us thats still too high and we'll continue to investigate. Questions? "
